The best thing about these beauty advent calendars is that you don’t know exactly what you’re going to get each day! There was actually a card with mine that tells you what’s inside but I chose not to look at that and ruin the surprise… Let me tell you, that was a challenge for me given delayed gratification is not my thing!
A couple of days ago I opened my advent day 7 gift and was slightly disappointed to find a Malin & Goetz product inside the little box… don’t get me wrong, I’m not ungrateful, but I was cajoled by an over-zealous beautician into buying a Malin & Goetz body lotion to cure my dry legs and not only was it expensive, it didn’t smell very nice and it didn’t even work! My legs were actually flaky dry and that lotion was totally useless, I may as well have been applying water to them! So when I found this lip moisturiser, I was beyond cynical and nearly popped it in my ‘to re-gift’ box….
Instead, I thought I’d try it out because my lips were so dry that day. Turns out I was wrong!
It has a silky texture and glides onto your lips beautifully, giving them a lovely shine, AND it delivers on its ‘moisturising’ claim – kept my lips hydrated for a good couple of hours (including drinking tea & repeatedly rubbing my lips together). I reapplied it over lip liner today too and that works well. I would actually buy this, and I take back my Malin & GOATS comments for good!!
I don’t know about you, but I get so excited in the run up to Christmas! I’ve been particularly looking forward to this December 1st as I have a wonderful Liberty beauty advent calendar full of goodies!!
I opened the gorgeous double doors yesterday to find 25 little drawers each with a beauty product and a card – here are my first 2 treats & I’ll keep you updated when I use them!!
I really love how cheeky Too Faced are! What a great name for a mascara…
As I mentioned before, my eye make up often smudges so I tend to opt for waterproof mascara most of the time. I stumbled across this one in Sephora and I must admit, the packaging won me over – I had to buy it.
1944% more volume apparently… the claims are impressive! According to their consumer study, 97% said it increased volume and length and 94% said it stays put all day. As someone who works in market research, I’m curious to know how many people were interviewed…!
I was pretty excited to see if this actually lived up to the hype, so I tried it out today. It absolutely increases the volume of your lashes, mine were multiplied and instantly more voluminous. However I didn’t get too much from it in terms of lengthening and it has lasted well but not perfectly all day. The brush is quite fat and fiddly, so if you hate clumps, this isn’t the mascara for you. I’d recommend purely for volume though, although at £19 it’s not the cheapest option out there.
Better than sex? The jury’s out on that…
Someone pointed out that many of the products I review aren’t exactly on the cheap side – in fact most of my make up products are luxury brands these days. This is probably down to convenience and laziness on my part – as much as I love Boots & Superdrug, it’s a proper mission to find and try on make up in the tiny aisles with hordes of other customers! I prefer make up counters where I can easily see what’s available, try it on AND have wipes and tissues provided to remove it…
However, my office is conveniently next door to a Superdrug so I decided to pick up some concealers to try out. One of these was the L’Oreal Perfect/TrueMatch concealer and it is really very good!!! It is thick enough to provide decent coverage and has an easy to use wand applicator. I was pleasantly surprised given it was about £7. Definitely adding this to my on-the-go make up bag!
If you were back to work and feeling a bit meh after the long weekend like I was this week, I’d recommend booking in a makeover! My friend and I went to Charlotte Tilbury’s Covent Garden store for a fresh look & some make up advice. A session with them will set you back £35, but it’s redeemable on products you buy – although be warned! The products aren’t cheap so you’d only be able to get 1-2 max within that budget… needless to say I am now broke, but hopefully beautiful!
I particularly liked the blush – here’s what they put on me…
The Filmstar Bronze and Glow plus the Cheek to Chic blush seemed to give me a great glow and you can barely see my dark skin spots – RESULT!
Having always used micro-beaded products for exfoliation in the past, acid-based wipes are a total revelation! Firstly, don’t be afraid of the word ‘acid’ – the proportion is too low to harm your skin apparently, (I’m no skin doctor so please don’t take this as gospel) but some of them do make your skin go a little red and itch a bit…
These ones don’t for me – they seem to be strong enough to exfoliate nicely, and yet gentle enough not to bring my skin up in a rash! Used daily, they reveal clearer, cleaner skin, so I definitely recommend them. I buy them off Amazon, but they do have offers on them in Superdrug & Boots. Otherwise they’re around £13 a pack which lasts around a month if used daily.
